1. Agreeing to these terms
By downloading or using the Tabby mobile app or this website (together, "the Service"), you agree to what follows. If you don't agree, don't use it. The Service is provided by Kealy Studio, based in Spain, referred to below as "we" and "us".
2. What Tabby does
Tabby helps a group of people split a restaurant bill. You photograph a receipt, Tabby reads the items off it, your friends join with a short code, everyone claims what they ordered, and Tabby works out what each person owes — apportioning tax and tip according to what each person claimed.
That is all it does. We may add, change or remove features as the app develops.
3. Tabby is not a payment service
This is the most important thing on this page. Tabby is a ledger: it records who owes what. It does not hold, transfer, process or take a cut of any money, it is not a bank, a payment institution or a money transmitter, and it is not a party to any debt between you and the people you eat with.
Settling up happens entirely between you and them, however you choose to do it. If you enter bank details, an email address or a phone number so people can pay you back, Tabby simply displays what you typed to the people on your tab — we don't verify it, and we don't move anything along it. Any dispute about whether a debt was paid is between the people involved.
4. The numbers are yours to check
Reading a receipt from a photograph is automated, and it is not perfect. A crumpled, faded or badly lit receipt can be misread, and prices, tax or tip can come back wrong. That is why Tabby shows you the extracted list and lets you correct every line before anyone else sees it.
You are responsible for checking that a tab matches the actual receipt before you lock it. We're not liable for someone being asked for the wrong amount because a scan was wrong and nobody checked it.
5. Your account
You need an account, and you get one by signing in with Apple or Google. There is no password for us to lose. You're responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping access to your Apple or Google account secure.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Tabby.
6. What it costs
Nothing. Tabby is free to download and free to use. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads and no paid tier. If that ever changes, we'll update these terms and tell you in the app before it takes effect — we won't quietly start charging for something you already have.
7. Using it decently
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful
- Use nudges to harass, threaten or pester anybody — they're rate-limited for a reason, and repeatedly targeting someone through them is misuse
- Upload images that aren't receipts, or that you have no right to upload
- Enter payment details that aren't yours, or use a tab to try to get money you aren't owed
- Try to reach accounts, tabs or data that aren't yours, or interfere with how the Service runs
8. Your content, and other people's
The receipts you photograph and the tabs you create stay yours. You give us only the permission we need to store that content and show it to you and to the people you've shared a tab with, so the app can work.
Bear in mind that a tab is shared by design. Items, claims, names and amounts on a tab are visible to everyone on it, and your payment details are visible to people you've shared a tab with. Don't put anything on a tab you wouldn't want the table to read. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly who can see what.
9. Our intellectual property
The Service — its design, its code, its name and the cat — belongs to Kealy Studio and is protected by intellectual property law. These terms don't give you any right to our branding.
10. No warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that a receipt will always be read correctly. Nothing in Tabby is financial, tax or legal advice.
11. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service — including any amount you or anyone else pays, doesn't pay, or is asked to pay as a result of a tab. Because Tabby is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to €50.
Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or the rights you have as a consumer under Spanish and EU law.
12. Ending it
You can stop using Tabby whenever you like and delete your account from the profile screen, or via the data deletion page. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and we'll tell you why where we reasonably can.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by Spanish law, and disputes go to the Spanish courts. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, or your right to bring a case in your local courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do we'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app. Carrying on using Tabby after a change means you accept the new version.
